From November 1st to May 1st a four-wheel drive vehicle with snow tires is required. For everyone’s safety two-wheel drive vehicles will not be permitted at the Hot Springs.
Use the map below for driving directions from Steamboat Springs. Note that although the last two miles of the road are regularly maintained, the road is unpaved and is steep and winding. Please remember that you must share the road with hikers and bikers and please be courteous to all private landowners by obeying all posted signs.
From November 1st to May 1st a four-wheel drive vehicle with snow tires or any vehicle with chains is required to be on the last two miles of the road. If you do not have a four-wheel drive vehicle with snow tires or tire chains (no cables or straps) please be sure to contact shuttle companies to arrange transport. Colorado State Patrol and Routt County Sheriff’s office with ticket and the fine is serious if you cause an accident or get stuck on the road and do not have the legally required equipment. Please be courteous to others and obey all traffic laws. It is a danger to yourself and to others to be on the road if you are not prepared.
Forest Service Trail 1169 (Hot Springs Trail) is hiking / biking only from Elk River Road and Mad Creek Trailhead. If hiking to the springs please check-in with attendant upon arrival to pay admission fees.
NOTE: Due to limited parking parking at the springs and winter conditions, PLEASE consider a shuttle! RVs and trailers not permitted! No two-wheel drive vehicles permitted during winter season!
